Commodore John Barry

Father of the American Navy
(1745-1803)

Born in County Wexford, Ireland, John Barry was a naval hero in the Revolutionary War, winning the first and last battles fof the war against the British.  George Washington selected Barry to create the first United States Navy, and on that basis Barry is widely considered to be the Father of the American Navy.
